Online entry costs £50 per category. Artists may enter as many online categories as they wish.

Each category is entered, judged and ranked separately within the appropriate experience division.

Purchasing an entry secures your chosen category and division. Your work does not need to be finished when you enter.

2. Experience divisions

Every online category has two experience divisions:

  • 0–3 Years: artists with less than three years’ experience in the relevant discipline.
  • 3 Years+: artists with three years’ experience or more in the relevant discipline.

For clarity, an artist with exactly three years’ experience enters the 3 Years+ division.

Experience is calculated from the date of your first qualification in the relevant discipline to the date you purchase your entry. Taking a further course does not restart your experience period.

Queen’s Night may request qualification evidence to verify your division. Incorrect information may result in reclassification or disqualification.

3. Submission dates

Submissions open in January 2027. Artists may upload their work from January until their category’s closing date.

Categories closing on 31 May 2027

The following categories progress to a live final:

  • Full Coverage Lip Blush
  • Ombre Lips
  • Lip Neutralisation
  • Classic Eyeliner
  • Shaded Wing Eyeliner

Online only categories closing on 31 August 2027

The following categories do not progress to a live final:

  • Medical Micropigmentation
  • Removal / Correction
  • SMP Hair Density
  • SMP Edge Up
  • SMP Natural

All submissions must be complete by 11:59 pm UK time on the applicable closing date.

Allow enough time for treatment, healing, photography and uploading. Purchasing an entry before the deadline does not extend the submission period.

4. Your submitted work

All work must have been personally performed by the artist entering.

Each entry must present one complete case on one client or model. Before, immediately after and healed photographs must show the same person and treatment area. Images from different cases must not be combined.

Your submission must accurately demonstrate:

  • The starting point before treatment.
  • The work you performed.
  • The fresh result immediately after treatment.
  • The final healed result.

Category-specific rules will explain any additional evidence required, including treatment stages, close-ups, angles or supporting video.

5. Before, after and healed photographs

Each entry must include:

Before photographs
Taken before treatment begins, clearly showing the original treatment area. For correction or removal entries, these must clearly show the existing work before you intervene.

Immediately after photographs
Taken following treatment, clearly showing the fresh result without concealment or digital alteration.

Healed photographs
Showing the fully healed and settled result.

Healed photographs must be taken at least six weeks after the final treatment session, including any touch-up, unless the published category rules require a longer period.

Photographs showing scabbing, peeling, inflammation or incomplete healing will not be accepted as healed evidence.

For correction, removal and treatments completed across several sessions, include the treatment history and intermediate evidence required by your category rules.

6. Unedited photographs and videos

All photographs and videos must show the genuine, unedited treatment result.

The following are prohibited:

  • Beauty filters, skin smoothing or retouching.
  • AI generation, enhancement or alteration.
  • Changes to colour, saturation, brightness, exposure or white balance after capture.
  • Digital reshaping or symmetry correction.
  • Adding, removing or altering pigment, strokes, hairs, lines or treatment details.
  • Removing redness, patchiness, migration, blowout or other imperfections.
  • Blur, overlays or effects that conceal the treatment or its outcome.

Set your lighting and camera correctly when taking the photographs. Disable beauty modes, filters and automatic retouching.

Simple cropping or rotation is permitted only to frame or orient an image. It must not remove evidence needed to assess the work.

Keep the original camera files. Queen’s Night may request these to verify a submission.

7. Lighting and image quality

Photographs must be sharp, in focus and sufficiently detailed for fair judging.

Use neutral, even lighting that accurately represents skin tone, pigment colour and treatment detail.

Before, immediately after and healed photographs should use the same lighting, camera angle, distance and framing wherever possible.

Avoid:

  • Coloured lighting or dramatic shadows.
  • Overexposure, glare or reflections that obscure the treatment.
  • Lighting that makes the result appear stronger, softer or more even than it is.
  • Inconsistent conditions that prevent a fair comparison.

Provide an overall view and the close-ups required by your category. Close-ups must not replace photographs showing the full treatment area.

8. No makeup or concealment

The treatment area must be clearly visible without products that alter or conceal the result.

Do not apply makeup, tinted products, concealer, hair fibres or other camouflage over the area being judged.

For lip entries, do not use lipstick, lip liner or coloured gloss.

For eyeliner entries, lashes and eye makeup must not obscure the treatment.

9. Anonymous submissions and no logos

Judging is anonymous.

Submitted photographs and videos must not contain:

  • Logos or watermarks.
  • Artist or business names.
  • Social media handles.
  • Academy, sponsor or brand identification.
  • Certificates, awards or promotional text.
  • Identifying uniforms, signage or branded backgrounds.

Use a plain, neutral background wherever possible.

Provide personal and business details only in the designated entry fields. Do not include identifying information in the visual evidence or case description shown to judges.

Artists must not contact judges about their entries or reveal their anonymous entry number during judging.

10. Eligibility, consent and insurance

Artists must be 18 or over and live, work or practise in, or be a national of, the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.

Clients and models must be 18 or over.

Artists must hold appropriate professional insurance for the work submitted and provide the required evidence.

You must obtain treatment consent and permission to submit the client’s or model’s photographs and videos for competition judging. Any permission for publication or promotional use must be recorded separately.

Medical and specialist submissions must protect the client’s dignity and privacy while showing enough detail for objective assessment.

11. Category rules and scoring

The full rules, evidence requirements and scoring criteria for every category will be released before submissions open in January 2027.

Each category will have its own scorecard reflecting the skills and results relevant to that discipline.

Online entries will be scored out of 100, using ten published criteria worth up to ten points each.

The two experience divisions will be judged and ranked separately. Entries will be assessed anonymously, and judges must declare relevant conflicts of interest.

Eligibility, evidence quality, consent, insurance and compliance with these rules are checked separately from the artistic score.

Missing, misleading or non-compliant evidence may prevent an entry from being judged. False information, another artist’s work or prohibited image manipulation may result in disqualification.

12. Top 10 online recognition

A Top 10 online placing is an achievement in its own right.

The ten highest-ranked eligible artists in each category and experience division will receive QN 2027 Top 10 recognition, identifying them among the best-performing artists in their category within the Queen’s Night UK & Ireland competition.

Your online ranking remains yours whether or not you progress to, accept or compete in a live final.

Where fewer than ten eligible artists compete in a category and division, the published results will reflect the actual number of ranked artists.

13. Progression to a live final

For the 15 online categories with a live equivalent, the top three eligible artists in each experience division will be offered a live finalist place.

Artists offered a place have 14 days from the date of their invitation to book and pay the £125 live finalist fee.

If an artist declines or does not complete booking and payment within those 14 days, the place will automatically be offered to the next eligible artist in ranking order. Replacement artists will also have 14 days from their invitation to complete booking and payment.

Artists may compete in one live final category only.

If you qualify in more than one category, Queen’s Night will contact you to confirm which place you wish to accept. Any place released will be offered to the next eligible artist in that category and experience division.

Accepting or declining a finalist place does not change your online ranking or remove your Top 10 recognition.

14. SMP competition clarification

SMP Hair Density, SMP Edge Up and SMP Natural are online-only competitions. Their submissions close on 31 August 2027, and each has its own rankings and Top 10 recognition in both experience divisions.

These online categories do not provide qualification for the separate live SMP competition.

The standalone live SMP competition will accommodate up to five competitors, working on a latex model head. Artists will create a natural, undetectable hairline on one side and a receding hairline on the other.

Entry arrangements, rules and scoring for the standalone live SMP competition will be published separately.
